Come to MoCA for the launch of Vectors, an innovative online journal committed to fostering new conversations about the changing role of the visual and the aural in scholarship, media, art, and daily life. Vectors brings together visionary thinkers with cutting-edge designers, technologists, and media artists to propose a thorough rethinking of the dynamic relationship of form to content, focusing on the ways technology shapes, transforms or reconfigures social and cultural relations.
Although the language and culture of this century are so clearly impacted by digital communications, traditional academic publishing – which figures prominently for tenure and advancement in higher education – has remained rigidly fixed in a traditional text mode. Vectors aims to shatter the exclusionary nature of the status quo, by fusing the rigor and discipline of a traditional peer-reviewed format with the unique capabilities of digital technology.
The evening will include a roundtable discussing publication in the digital age, featuring Vectors’ creative team and authors, and will highlight work by Erik Loyer, Raegan Kelly, N. Katherine Hayles, Alice Gambrell and others. A reception will follow, complete with free food and drink, interactive media performances by the creator of the I LOVE BEES game, and music by the Industrial Jazz Group.
