Following the debates begun in 2004 (International Year for the Commemoration of the Struggle Against Slavery and its Abolition and the Bi-Centenary of the Independence of Haiti, this conference proposes a series of exchanges between established and young researchers associated with the Canada Research Chair in Comparative History of Memory (Université Laval) and the Canada Research Chair in the African Diaspora History (York University). It will deal with the history and memory of slavery in Africa and throughout the Americas through multiple approaches, including archival documents, life-stories, commemorative monuments and other cultural and artistic manifestations such as dance, music, and art.
All abstracts must be sent no later than March 15th, 2005 to :
