The Department of History and Anthropology at Central Missouri State University, in partnership with the Friends of Arrow Rock, will be hosting a Landmarks of American History Workshop for School Teachers, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. We will offer a five-day workshop (your choice of July 18-22 or July 25-29, 2005) at the historic town of Arrow Rock. The workshop will examine life in a nineteenth-century border region, informing participants about methods of learning that use historic settings, architecture, artifacts, art, and documents as instructional tools. Teachers of history, social studies, and the humanities in public, private, and parochial schools are potential applicants to the workshop. Successful applicants will receive a $500 educational stipend. The staff draws on experts from Central Missouri State University, the Friends of Arrow Rock, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the Missouri State Archives, the University of Missouri (Kansas City and St. Louis), the University of Cincinnati, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Our website (web address provided below) has full information about the workshop and applications instructions. School teachers who are interested should mail their completed application by March 15, 2005 to Dr. Jeff Yelton (contact information shown below). Our Selection Committee will make its selection of accepted participants and alternates April 5
