"Historic Cemeteries" will be the topic of the Third Annual Deadwood Historic Preservation Symposium. Ten experts from throughout the country will come to Deadwood, SD to discuss various topics related to cemeteries, especially Western cemeteries. Among the presenters will be Kevin Britz speaking on "Dodge City's and Deadwood Cemeteries," Thomas Isern discussing "Iron Crosses in North Dakota," and Sharyn Thompson presenting on "Cemetery Symbolism from the Victorian Era." The Symposium will begin on April 1 with tours of local cemeteries and workshops covering the preservation of markers. The presentations will be held all day Saturday, April 2, at the Masonic Temple in Deadwood, beginning at 8:00am, and concluding with a banquet where Candace Wheeler of the Comstock Historic District will offer the keynote comments. The symposium concludes Sunday morning with a round table discussion.
