HISTORICAL AND CONTEMPORAY PERSPECTIVES ON THE ROLE OF ACADEMICS IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL WELFARE POLICY FORMATION

A multi-disciplinary conference, supported by the Phoenix EU Thematic Research Network. Papers are invited on a variety of themes, including:
- The experience of academics in working with governments
- The role of ‘special advisers’ to governments
- How experts move between academic and governmental institutions
- The changing significance of academic ‘independence’
- The language of expertise – how academics communicate
- How non-governmental organisations have influenced policy direction
- The political science of health and social welfare
Keynote speaker: Professor Dan Fox, President of the Milbank Memorial Fund (former academic and adviser to American Federal Government agencies)
