A multi-disciplinary conference, supported by the Phoenix EU Thematic Research Network. Papers are invited on a variety of themes, including:

• The experience of academics in working with governments
• The role of ‘special advisers’ to governments
• How experts move between academic and governmental institutions
• The changing significance of academic ‘independence’
• The language of expertise – how academics communicate
• How non-governmental organisations have influenced policy direction
• The political science of health and social welfare
