DEADLINE EXTENDED
Call for Essays and Case Studies on:
“Building feminist movements and organizations: learning from experience”
Send your contribution by April 30th, 2005!
AWID renews its invitation to send contributions to the Call for Essays and Case Studies “Building feminist movements and organizations: learning from experience”. The deadline has been extended to April 30th, 2005. Through this Call, we are gathering insights into feminist organizational strengthening and movement building that we intend to share with AWID members and others around the world. What processes make a strong women’s organization? How can we move beyond our fragmented feminist and women’s movements? We propose to reflect on and share these and other questions by bringing together a collection of essays and case studies depicting our organizational experiences in our women’s movements and organizations.
We wish to emphasize that we are not only looking for academic contributions. New technologies enable us to share written information at a fast pace world wide. Nevertheless, we recognize that some of us feel more at ease expressing ourselves through other means of communication, or we feel that we lack experience to translate our everyday experiences into a written contribution. If you wish to share your experiences but need assistance for writing an essay or a case study, we can help you. We can assist you by putting you in contact with people in your country who can support you. If you wish to get support or advice on how to write your contribution, or you wish to support a person/organization through this process, please contact us at femo-call@awid.org
If you have an experience or a reflection on movement building or organizational strengthening that you wish to share, get in touch with us. We want to hear from you!
Both essays and case studies should focus on one or more of the following issues:
- Power dynamics and leadership in organizations and movements;
- Broadening participation / mechanisms of inclusion;
- Overcoming fragmentation in movements;
- Re-politicizing the work and movements;
- Feminist principles in action regarding relationships among people and organizations and within organizations and movements;
- Fundraising, resource mobilization and sustainability;
- Sustaining the work of women’s organizations and movements in conflict situations; and
- Building alliances and partnerships with other organizations or movements.
Contributions that are selected will receive an honorarium of $1000 USD to be used towards organizational strengthening activities. Selected contributions will also be published by AWID and highlighted at the 10th International AWID Forum on Women’s Rights in Development, October 27-30, 2005, in Bangkok, Thailand. For further information, please consult our web page at the web address shown below. The call is available in Arabic, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
Best regards,
Feminist Movements and Organisations Program, AWID
