The editors of The Industrial Revolution in America, a nine-volume series to be published by ABC-CLIO in 2005-06, are seeking contributors for the volume devoted to Mining and Petroleum (each volume focuses on a specific industry that played a significant historical role in the expansion of the United States into a major economic power).
Specifically, we are seeking qualified individuals to cover the following areas of the U.S. mining and petroleum industries during the 19th and early 20th centuries:
- Innovations and Inventions Driving the Industry (8000 words)
- Major Entrepreneurs and Companies in the Industry (12,000 words)
- Societal Impact of the Industry (10,000 words)
- Environmental Impact of the Industry (8,000 words)
- Gilded Age Literature and Art Concerning the Industry (10,000 words)
- Immigration's Impact on the Industry (10,000 words)
- Assessment of the Industry's Current Status (10,000 words)
All chapters are intended for a general readership. Compensation is $650 (for 8,000-word chapters), $750 (for 10,000-word chapters), and $850 (for 12,000-word chapters). In addition, contributors will receive attribution in the volume and a copy of the book upon publication. The deadline for manuscript submission is May 1, 2005.
