Call For Abstracts
Graduate Women's Studies Student Association Symposium
York University
April 13-14, 2005
The Graduate Women's Studies Student Association (GWSSA) invites feminist academics, artists, and activists to the second annual GWSSA Symposium. Participation can take the form of panel presentation, round table or creative submission. The Committee also welcomes submissions from groups organized as panels or roundtables.
Focusing primarily on expanding the borders and boundaries within women's studies, this year's conference welcomes academic, creative and activist submissions relating to any of the themes/topics outlined below, or more generally addressing feminist perspectives.
Possible themes might include:
- critical engagement with the development of Women's Studies as an inter/discipline
- the challenges (methodological, theoretical, political) of engaging in feminist research, policy development and/or activism
- social movements
- sexuality and the body
- feminist theorizations of violence
- theorizing sex work
- relationships between Women's Studies and feminist activism
- the fight for institutional space
- Women's Studies and privilege
- Women's Studies and/as transnationalism
- Women's Studies/feminist pedagogy
- feminism and/in popular culture
Abstracts should not exceed 250 words, and should include clearly identifiable keywords. Other guidelines and application forms

The deadline for abstracts is Monday, February 21, 2005.
Successful applicants will be notified by Monday March 4, 2005.
