Dear Colleagues,
Together with several other scholars, I am proposing a panel for next year's American Historical Association conference on the relationship between religious diversity and national identity in different national contexts. The panel will focus on cultural transformations in the wake of the growth of "non-Western"- specifically, Muslim- communities in the United States and Europe.
Our papers will explore the role of religious pluralism in reshaping national identity, particularly those questions of civic participation and membership in national communities which are not resolved by the granting of juridical citizenship.
We are seeking another scholar who would like to contribute a paper focusing on the Islamic communities of Western Europe. Please contact me directly if you are interested in joining us. The deadline for panel submissions is 2/15.
Many thanks,
Mia Sara Bruch
