A book talk and signing by Dr. Phylis Vine will be at 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 10, 2005 in the Hollis Room of Florida Southern College, 111 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland, Florida. Books will be available for purchase at the book talk.
Dr. Phylis Vine, an American historian, holds degrees in history from the Univeristy of California, L.A. and earned her Ph.D at the University of Michigan. In researching her family history, Dr. Vine found articles about the trial of Ossican Sweet charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Dr. Vine says, "I found myself drawn to the tragic qualities of this exceptional being who lost so much." Ossican Sweet had moved from Bartow, Florida to Detriot, Michigan to pursue his career as a physian.
