Space of Pleasure: An Interdisciplinary Conference
April, 2005
Carleton University
Ottawa, Ontario
An interdisciplinary conference, Spaces of Pleasure invites graduate students to present on topics that may include, but are not limited to, pleasure in society, bodies of pleasure, pleasurable bodies, the politics of pleasure, regulating pleasure, selling pleasure/pleasurable space, pleasure in popular culture and the media, or anything that just feels good. We are looking for substantive topics that may touch upon theme parks, bars, prostitution, the regulation of pleasure, etc., as well as theories of pleasure and pleasurable theories.
Hosted by graduate students in the department of Sociology and Anthropology at Carleton University, the purpose of this conference is to take seriously the role of pleasure in society, a topic that spills over the traditional boundaries between disciplines. We encourage participants to be creative, exploring/exploding concepts of space and pleasure. In keeping with the interdisciplinary theme of this conference, graduate students of the humanities and social sciences are invited to participate alongside one another.
Join us in creating a pleasurable space for graduate students to present papers and receive feedback while sharing perspectives on similar topics that cross disciplinary boundaries.
Students are encouraged to submit an abstract of 350-500 words to this e-mail address by Feburary 15. Dates and further details to follow.
