I am looking for participants for a proposed panel for the 2005 Pacific Coast Branch-American Historical Association Annual Meeting to address issues of gender, international medical relief, and medical care in times of crisis. The conference will be held in Corvallis, Oregon August 4-7, 2005 and the general theme is "Dancing on the Rim: Nations, Borders and Identities." The paper I will propose deals with U.S. physician Esther Pohl Lovejoy who chaired the American Women’s Hospitals, a global medical relief organization for civilians and refugees from 1919-1967. Lovejoy developed an international vision for cooperation among medical women as organizer and first president of the Medical Women’s International Association (1919-1924). I would also like to hear from those who would be interested in chairing such a panel.
The deadline for submissions is JANUARY 15, 2005. The committee asks that each paper proposal for the panel include a one-page abstract and a one-page c.v. They prefer submissions via email. I am willing to coordinate the materials and submissions for such a panel.
