Fourth Conference International Water History Association
Water and Civilization
Paris, France, 1-4 Dec 2005
CALL FOR PAPERS AND PANELS
The International Water History Association (IWHA) invites panel proposals and individual paper abstracts for IWHA’s fourth biennial conference. The program, which will address diverse topics related to water and history, will bring together scholars and practitioners from a variety of disciplines and different parts of the world.
In the process, IWHA hopes to help advance the theoretical and methodological quality of water history as a research field and to thereby increase understanding of the role of water in history and development. Specifically, the panels and presentations will dovetail with the long-term IWHA/UNESCO project to publish a seven-volume series on "Water and Civilization."
The program is organized around the following main themes and aspects (click on the themes for details):
- The Control of Water.
- Water and Religion.
- Water and Climate.
- Water and Conflict.
- Water and Health.
- River Basins – A Comparative Perspective.
Time schedules for abstracts and papers
The Conference will include plenary oral presentations, concurrent thematic sessions, and poster displays.
Participants are invited to submit paper abstracts (maximum 250 words) no later than March 1, 2005. Only proposals and abstracts sent via this link will be considered http://iwha.polaire.net/cgi-bin/2005/submit.cgi. If you have any difficulties contact the secretariat (e-mail address shown below).
In addition, the conference organizers especially encourage the submission of panel proposals. Information about overall theme, names of presenters, and titles should be sent to the following e-mail address. The panel abstracts should be sent via the web address above.
