I am interested in putting together a panel examining historical memory and identity for the 2006 OAH Conference.
My paper examines the way that representations of the Harvey Girls, women who were waitresses in the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth century Southwest, have been incorporated into western identity. Proposals looking at this issue in any time period are welcome, especially those with another regional focus (such as the American South).
The OAH asks for a prospectus of 250 words for each paper, and a CV of not more than 500 words from each participant. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 15, 2005. I would like to be ready to submit the panel proposal by January 5, 2005.
Details on the OAH CFP are available at the web address shown below.
