The conference provides an international forum for teachers and researchers working in the emerging field of travel writing studies. The aim is to foster cross-fertilisation of ideas among scholars who are often working in isolation within their institutions.
Staff and graduate students from different disciplines (English, History, Comparative Literature, Area Studies, Women's Studies and Cultural Studies) and working on texts in different languages are welcome (although all papers must be given in English).
Papers accepted into the programme include studies on particular travel writers, texts and contexts, histories and theories of travel and cross-cultural and transnational critical approaches. A significant section of the conference is likely to be devoted to French-Chinese/Asian and English-Chinese/Asian travel writing studies as the conference is being held in Hong Kong this year.
EXTENDED DEADLINE: Abstracts are being accepted up to 31st January, 2005
