I am interested in putting together a panel on the intersection of religion and politics, broadly construed, for the Organization of American Historians Meeting scheduled for April 19-22, 2006 in Washington, D.C. I am currently working on a dissertation on the Bible in seventeenth and eighteenth century New England. A chapter of my dissertation examines the cultural uses of the Bible in political discourse, especially surrounding the American Revolution. While my project is centered in the colonial period, topics on any and all areas of U.S. history are welcome, including those that examine "America" in an international context.
The OAH asks for a prospectus of 250 words for each paper, and cv or not more than 500 words for each participant. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 15, 2005. I would like to be ready to submit the panel proposal by January 1, 2005.
