After a huge success of the Spring Academy 2004 with 26 young and inspiring researches from 12 countries representing 8 academic disciplines Heidelberg Center for American Studies (HCA) invites proposals for its second Spring Academy on "American History, Culture, and Politics", which will take place from February 28 - March 4, 2005 at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. The Spring Academy aims at establishing a European network of advanced graduate and Ph.D. students specializing in the fields of American History and Politics.
Participants are requested to prepare a 20-minute presentation of their research project, which will be followed by a through discussion allowing for feedback from participants as well as from advisors. Presentations will be arranged thematically in panel groups. Possible topics include immigration, transatlantic relations, issues of ethnicity as well as any other aspect of American history and politics. Students pursuing interdisciplinary research projects are especially encouraged to apply.
The Spring Academy will provide participants with the opportunity to work with experts in their fields of study. Guest speakers will be invited for lectures and workshops. Participants are required to submit a 15-page, double-spaced paper two weeks in advance. Papers must be written in English and should provide an outline of the proposed research project.
The Spring Academy will take place at the Internationale Wissenschaftsforum of the University of Heidelberg in the historic center of the city (see http://www.uni-heidelberg.de/zentral/iwh/index2.html). The HCA will cover all expenses, except for the cost of dinner and travel. A limited number of travel grants will be available.
