This is a three-day conference on historical and contemporary relations between the United States and West Africa. The major themes of the conference are: the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, African Americans and West Africa, United States Foreign Policy Towards West Africa, United States Business Relations with West Africa, and the New West African Diaspora in the United States. Participants will be drawn from the United States, Europe, and Africa. Graduate students are encouraged to attend and present papers. Selected papers from the conference will be published in book form.
The deadline for submitting paper proposals is December 31, 2004. Proposals should include a 250-word abstract along with the author's address, telephone, e-mail, and institutional affiliation.
