Buffy and Angel (11/15/04; SW/TX PCA/ACA, 2/9/05-2/12/05)
2005 Southwest/Texas Popular Culture/American Culture Association 26th Annual Conference, The Hyatt Regency Conference Hotel, Albuquerque, NM, February 9 -12, 2005.
Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and Angel attracted large audiences and faithful fans; they have also excited a great deal of scholarly intention, including several books, articles, and conference papers. Proposals on both or either of the two shows are solicited for inclusion within the Science Fiction and Fantasy Area of the SW/TX PCA/ACA. Both individual papers and fully formed panels are invited. Papers should not exceed 15 minutes in length.
Paper topics might address such topics as the construction of:
- narrative
- gender, including grrrl power
- sexuality
- race
- class
- space/place
- religion/spiritiuality
- heroes
- vampires and their relation to society
- intertextuality
The SW/TX PCA/ACA conference is an excellent showcase for academic work by both established and emerging scholars, including graduate students.
