The USC-Huntington Early Modern Studies Institute will host a major international conference entitled “Plants and Insects in the Early Modern World.” The conference will be held at the Huntington Library in San Marino, California, on April 29 and 30, 2005. The conference organizers invite proposals for papers relating to the human understanding of plants and/or insects in any part of the world for the period c. 1450 to c.1850. The conference seeks papers from a variety of disciplines, including (but not limited to) history, art history, and literature. The conference will provide transportation and local costs for those accepted on the program. The papers will be pre-circulated and must be available by March 15, 2005. Proposals are due no later than November 15, 2004. To be considered, please submit a one-page abstract and a c.v. not to exceed three pages to the e-mail address given below, or mail four copies to:
