We are looking for a third panelist to fill out a proposed panel session for the 2005 Southern Historical Association Convention in Atlanta, GA. Our proposed panel will focus on party politics in the late antebellum South, with two papers already planned (one that examines political realignments, Know-Nothingism and secession in Alabama, and another that examines party politics and
realignments during the secession crisis in Virginia). William Freehling has agreed to serve as the session's chair. If interested, please contact Erik Alexander (eba4n@virginia.edu) and indicate a paper topic for the proposed panel. The deadline to propose a panel session for the 2005 Southern is September 15, so potential panelists do not need to submit a paper in such short notice, only indicate what the subject of the paper would be that they would submit for the panel. Preferably, potential panelists will have already done some work and have a detailed idea of the content of their paper. In contact, please indicate institution, title, and where PhD was awarded (if applicable). Apologies for the late notice, the pieces for this panel just came together. Given the close proximity of the deadline for panel proposals (September 15) prospective panelists would need to be in touch immediately.
