Lummi Nation Healing Poles

The Lummi Nation gift of two healing totem poles "Liberty" and "Freedom" to the citizens of Washington DC to honor those lost on September 11, 2001, will be presented at the Pentagon on September 19, 2004 and then moved to historic Congressional Cemetery on Thursday, September 23, 2004. A ceremony welcoming the gift will be held at about 12:30 pm at the cemetery located at 1801 E Street, Southeast, Washington, DC 20003. The poles, 15 feet high and 6 feet around with a cross piece 35 feet long, will be erected about 6:00 am on the 23rd. The Lummi Nation master carver, Jewell Praying Wolf James, will explain the symbolism of the carvings followed by blessings by various Native American Nations. All are welcome.
