Panel seeking a paper on southern African Americans living or working in the North in the late nineteenth/early twentieth century for the 2005 Southern Historical Association meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. The deadline for the panel proposal is September 15th, 2004.
Current panelists would present papers on a New York chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and Thomas Dixon’s sermons on the Spanish-American War. The panel seeks to offer a diverse view of “Southerners in a Strange Land.” A paper on southern African American activists traveling in the North would be a particularly good fit for the panel.
