Abstracts are being accepted for a panel session entitled "Constructing Identity in the Middle Ages" for the 40th International Medieval Congress at Kalamazoo in May 2005. The deadline for abstracts is Sept. 15. Paper proposals on any aspect of how communities -- or individuals -- defined themselves in the Middle Ages are welcome. In particular, papers that are interdisciplinary in nature or that utilize varied analytical approaches such as psychoanalytic theory, performance theory (especially in the realm of gender), and anthropologically-indebted explorations of local social groups are sought. Please send 1 page abstracts for a 20 min. paper by Sept. 15 (e-mail attachments are OK). Proposals not chosen for the panel will be forwarded to the conference committee, who will attempt to fit the proposed paper into another session.
