The goal of this conference is to expand and intensify the debate, continue strengthening ties among women of African descent, promote their literature, create a platform for young emerging writers and raise public awareness about
global developments.
Participants include: Maya Angelou, Alice Walker, Ama Ata Aidoo, Lucille Clifton, Maryse Condé, Nawal El Saadawi, Buchi Emecheta, Regina Taylor, Nancy Mórejon, Gloria Naylor, Edwidge Danticat, Sapphire, Euzhan Palcy,
Patricia McFadden, jessica Care moore, Carla Hayden, Julie Dash, Sonia Sanchez, Lorna Goodison, Tananarive Due, Lebogang Mashile, Octavia Butler, Louise Meriwether, Alexis DeVeaux, Jayne Cortez & many others.
The conference will consist of panel discussions, film and video screenings, performances, conversations, readings, workshops, exhibitions and open mike sessions.
Issues to be addressed include:
the positive and negative possibilities of globalization
the impact of new technologies on literature, publishing and distribution
globalization, and the impact of dislocation and population movements on the creative process
global creative freedom and censorship since September 11, 2001
globalization and new imaginative literature
literary feminism in Africa and its Diaspora
