Position papers are sought for a workshop that focuses on the recent, simultaneous turn in cinema studies toward renewed class-conscious analysis but away from those Marxist theoretical paradigms which historically have supplied powerful models for critiquing cultures and structures of class in capitalist society. Papers might consider the prevalence of this contradiction in recent critical (re)turns in the field to genre studies, authorship studies, neoformalism, aesthetic phenomenology, analytic philosophy, and cognitive-behaviorist pedagogy. Has the turn toward media studies affected or determined this contradiction in any way?
