CREAM (the Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media) at the University of Westminster in London is organising a major conference on the French filmmaker Jean Rouch contribution to cinema. The conference will take place between 8-10 October 2004 at Le Ciné Lumière of the French Institute in the centre of London.
The conference will mainly focus on the part Jean Rouch played in the development of documentary and fiction films in France and Africa for more than half a century.
The following central five main themes of the conference will be:
Early Jean Rouch films in the context of Surrealism and Neo Realism
Jean Rouch and the French New Wave
Jean Rouch at work as ethnographer and a filmmaker
Jean Rouch and African Cinema
Jean Rouch film legacy – new forms of documentary and fiction films in Europe, Africa and the USA.
