Gregg Toland, internationally renowned cinematographer (Citizen Kane, Grapes of Wrath, Best Years of Our Lives, etc.), was born in Charleston, IL in 1904. We are holding the Toland Centenary Festival, and invite scholars to participate in our informal conference on Friday, 9-24-04 and Sat. 9-25-04. Papers on Toland's biography, cinematography, films, as well as related topics: WWII documentaries, film history and theory of cinematography, etc., welcome.
