The Popular Communication Division of the Southern States Communication Association (www.ssca.net) invites completed papers, media presentations, and panel proposals related to the location or convention theme: "Communication, Dialogue, and Community." The division also welcomes scholarship related to media and culture within a popular communication framework from a broad range of theoretical and methodological approaches including: critical studies, genre studies, image and characterization research, cultural studies, cultural history and audience consumption research.
Possible themes suggested but not limited to include: sports and popular communication, Southern history and popular communication, Cajun culture/rituals and popular communication, and studies addressing popular music and popular communication. A cash award and certificate will be awarded to the top ranked paper. Student papers should be clearly marked "student." The top graduate student paper from the Popular Communication Division will be submitted for the Association's Bostrom Award for Best Graduate Student Paper.
