Spheres of Power
The UMass Amherst Graduate History Association is proud to host the 1st Annual UMass/Five College History Conference, Saturday, October 16, 2004
Power: its uses and effects have dominated history. Power is not limited to fields of battle and politics; rather, it affects every facet of human experience. We are seeking original interpretations of history concerning the nature of power, types of control, avenues of resistance and the relationship between dominance and subservience.
We welcome topics from all fields including, but not limited to: international studies, global studies, comparative studies, race, class, gender, science and technology, social history, political history, diplomatic and military history. Cross-disciplinary work is especially welcome.
Please submit one-page abstract and brief curriculum vitae by July 31, 2004.
If selected, a final paper, approximately 12 pages, (allow for a 15 minute presentation) must be submitted by October 1, 2004.
$200 Prize for the best paper. Participants interested in having their paper considered for this prize please submit their paper by September 15.
