The Society for Historians of the Early American Republic (SHEAR) will hold its twenty-sixth annual meeting on the campus of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, July 22-25, 2004. Pre-registration deadline is June 11. The SHEAR conference is the leading venue for scholarly presentations and collegial interchange among those with an interest in the history of the United States from 1789 to 1850. Attendance is normally around 300. The conference program includes thirty-three paper sessions, two plenary sessions, two sponsored receptions, a presidential address and awards banquet. Inexpensive convenient housing on the Brown campus is available to conference registrants.
