The British Popular Culture Area of the Midwest Popular Culture Association invites submissions of proposals and papers related to any dimension of British popular culture, in particular those focusing on the Kinks, arguably the most "British" of the major British Invasion bands, whose first great hit, "You Really Got Me" was released in 1964, forty years ago. Proposals and papers that explore the connections between the work of the Kinks and dimensions of British popular culture are especially welcomed. Other topics of interest include, but are not limited to, consideration of television, nostalgia, music hall, celebrity culture, media, gender, class, technology, food, sport, theatre, consumerism, attitude toward America/Americas, royalty, economy/currency, myth, tourism, industry, cultural identity, fashion/style, terrorism, nationalization, fiction, film, and more.
Deadline for submission is April 30, 2004. You will receive a response by mid-May.
