Papers and panel sessions are invited for the Canadian Asian Studies Association (CASA) 2004 Annual Conference. Panel proposals are strongly encouraged, since they will ensure interesting and thematically coherent sessions, of course, individual proposals are equally welcome. All proposals should fall into the theme of the conference.
The theme for the conference is "Tensions and Linkages." The current heightened concerns for global security, “clash of civilizations”, wars, natural disasters, sustainable development, emergent infectious diseases, human rights, and uneven development have overshadowed the fact that tensions and conflicts have always co-existed with linkages and resolutions. This conference will foster the exchange of ideas and facilitate the advancement of Asian Studies in diverse disciplines by providing the intellectual space to address issues of how tensions and linkages support continuing and/or create new cultural forms, coalitions, human conditions, trade policies, international relations, and risks.
