The Society for the Study of the Crusades and the Latin East is pleased to announce its sixth conference, which will be held in Istanbul, Turkey to coincide with the 800-year anniversary of the conquest of Constantinople by the Fourth Crusade. The conference will take place at the University of Bogazici on the shores of the Bosporus. The conference will open on 25 August with an optional tour of Istanbul during the day and plenary lectures in the evening by Michel Balard and Thomas F. Madden. A Welcome Reception hosted by the president of the University of Bogazici will follow. More than thirty sessions of scholarly papers will be delivered in concurrent sessions on 26, 27, and 28 August. The formal conference will conclude with a plenary panel on the state of research on the Fourth Crusade, which will include Alfred J. Andrea, Michael Angold, Michel Balard, David Jacoby, Thomas F. Madden, and Jonathan Riley-Smith. A Farewell Banquet will follow. On 29 August there will be a tour of Princes’ Islands and other Bosporus highlights for participants conducted by Asnu-Bilban Yalcin of Istanbul University. On 30 August to 1 September there will be an optional tour of Troy, Pergamum, and Ephesus
