First Call for papers!
Music, Myths, and Mountains
An interdisciplinary conference to be held at the Center for Continuing Education at Virginia Tech 29-30 October 2004.
Original presentations dealing with the following subjects are solicited from interested performers and scholars throughout the United States and other countries:
- stories from and/or about mountainous regions throughout the world;
- the mountain musics of various lands and peoples;
- ways in which both myths and music help us understand various montane peoples and cultures; and
- ways of understanding broader cultural issues concerning “music, myths, and mountains.”
Stipends to help offset travel and lodging costs as well as registration fees will be available to presenters employed by universities other than Virginia Tech.
Proposals are due no later than midnight on 1 July 2004. Abstracts should be no longer than 500 words and should include the names, professional addresses, and telephone numbers of potential participants; they should also include requests for audio-visual equipment or other technological assistance.
