This year UC Davis Summer Sessions Abroad will offer a new course in Berlin on Representations of the Holocaust in film, literature, memorials, and museums. The course will take place from July 17 to August 14. The language of instruction will be English.

Students will have the opportunity to study important Holocaust films and texts while exploring some of the most frequented sites of Holocaust commemoration. The double aim of the course will be to analyze the international significance of Holocaust remembrance, and to investigate the relation of memorial architecture to other representational forms and practices.

The course will be taught in cooperation with the international summer school at the Free University Berlin (FUBiS). Students will be housed in university apartments, and they will have unlimited access to university libraries and computer resources, as well as to Berlin’s extensive public transportation network. These amenities—along with discounted meals at student cafeterias—are included in the total price of the course of $2,995. Students are responsible for purchasing their own airline tickets.

The course will be worth eight units of credit. Students from schools outside the UC system are welcome to participate for transfer credit.
