FNI Panel: Towards a Media History of the Reformation
We are organizing a panel that approaches the European Reformations from
the vantage point of media history. On the one hand we are inviting
contributions that explore in a more general and formal way how the
various reforms can be understood as responses to a crisis of
mediation; on the other how reformation processes have been profoundly
shaped by the specific media involved in their emergence and
dissemination; media in the term’s broadest understanding such as the
printing press, broadsheets, sermons, catechisms, etc. We welcome
contributions that focus more systematically on one particular medium,
or that discuss the intersection of several different media.
