"The Legacy of Stones River: Slavery and the Civil War in Tennessee" will be held in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on Saturday, March 6, 2004. The symposium will combine scholarly perspectives and public programming. In the morning, on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University, four speakers will discuss the relationship between slavery and the war. The presenters include Charles B. Dew of Williams College, Gary T. Edwards of the University of Memphis, Robert H. Gudmestad of Southwest Baptist University, and Linda T. Wynn of the Tennessee Historical Commission and Fisk University. In the afternoon, tours and presentations will take place at Fortress Rosecrans and Stones River National Battlefield.
