I am continuing to welcome proposals for books to appear in the New Directions in the Americas series that I edit for Cambridge University Press. I am particularly interested in books that can fit into undergraduate or graduate courses that deal with important themes and topics but which also have a strong narrative base and are well-written. Thus far we have published books on women in the colonial era, Vargas of Brazil, the slave trade, material culture, and the impact of disease. Books in process deal with Andean utopianism, peasant movements, and the environment.
If you would like to make a proposal, please send me a two page precis and a chapter outline. I am looking for books from scholars who have a good publication "track- record," but most important is the conceptualization of the project and the quality of the proposal.
Volumes in the series appear simultaneously in hard and paper back.
