Call for Proposals: 2004 Eastern Division Conference
October 28-30, 2004

In honor of the 40th anniversary of our host college, Community College of Philadelphia, this year’s CCHA Regional Conference theme is “Innovations and Celebrations in the Humanities.” The Program Committee invites proposals that address this theme. Appropriate proposal topics may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- An event, person, or work in the humanities with an anniversary or celebration in
2004 (For example, did you know that the following events, people, or
works have anniversaries this year: Mark Twain’s The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn (1884), J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring
(1954), Jan Van Eyck’s Giovanni Arnolfini and His Bride (1434),
Terminator (1984), the birth of William Shakespeare (1564), Brown vs. the
Board of Education (1954)?);
- An innovation in the teaching of the humanities;
- Best practices of teaching in the humanities;
- Technology and the humanities;
- Learning Communities and the humanities;
- Service learning and the humanities;
- Classroom practices and the humanities;
- Community partnerships and the humanities;
- New beginnings in the humanities;
- New scholarship in the humanities;
- Administering the humanities;
- Assessment and the humanities.
Please submit proposals of 300-500 words by Monday, March 15, 2004.
Proposals should include the following on separate pieces of paper: a proposal of 300-500 words, an abstract of 50 words, and short biographical sketch of each presenter.
Proposals for Individual Presentations, Roundtable/Discussion Topics and Facilitators, Panels of Three Papers, and Session Moderators are welcome.
Please send six hard copies of proposals to the address given below.
