The 4th Annual Fresh Perspectives Conference is organised by postgraduate students for postgraduate students. The Individual and Society have run parallel throughout human history. Particularly the tensions between the life and rights of the individual and the demands of social co-existence have always attracted the interest of researchers and theorists. We invite papers by postgraduate history students to explore new perspectives on all aspects of the diverse range of relations and interactions between society and the individual.
We welcome papers from students of all historical periods, from antiquity to today. Participants should feel free to interpret the two concepts of society and the individual as widely as they wish. Topics to be discussed include: Biography, Exclusion and Inclusion, Conflict and Change, Identity, Social and Cultural Movements and Historiography.
Please send abstracts of approx. 250 words.
The Conference will take place at the University of Sussex, Brighton on the 16th-17th March 2004
