Seeking short form film, video, and multimedia work by professional and emerging African-American filmmakers, documentary makers, videographers, and multimedia artists for Seattle’s Langston Hughes African American Film Festival, February 2004. Founded in 1972, the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center is an artistic and cultural hub for Seattle's diverse Central District neighborhood. Named after the famed Harlem Renaissance poet, novelist, playwright and essayist, Langston Hughes strives to become one of Seattle's premier performing arts venues.
Categories: drama, animation, children/youth films, documentary, and art films & videos about African American life and culture. Suggested length: 60 minutes or less. Selected pieces will be shown once during 3 days of scheduled programming. Seeking positive images of Blacks, and content suitable for general audiences, including a special screening of films for children. $50 honorarium paid for works selected.
Please send preview copy and $10 submission fee to the address below or email. Acceptable preview formats: VHS, DVD, CD-ROM. Sorry, but we cannot return submissions; please include a self-addressed, postage paid envelope or other mailer if you would like your work samples returned. Deadline: December 1, 2003.
