Recognizing both the contributions of Stokely Carmichael (Kwame Toure) and the publication of this autobiography, Ready for the Revolution (2003), this symposium aims to examine his ideas, his Pan-Africanism and black activism; his student and adult activism. Kwame Toure is seen by many as one of the best examples of the African Diaspora subject, committed until death to Black Liberation and Empowerment. His contributions to African, African-American and Caribbean politics, US voting rights, desegration need now further exploration. This is the symposium's purpose - to honor and examine a life borne of struggle.
