Centre for Jewish-Christian Relations (CJCR) in Cambridge (UK) invites you to attend Summer School 2004: ‘Jewish-Christian Relations in a Multi-faith World’ in Cambridge (UK), 28 June – 9 July 2004
Led by Rev. Dr. Martin Forward
Co-Founder of CJCR and former Vice-Principal of Wesley House in Cambridge; currently Director Executive Director of the Center for Faith and Action; Wackerlin Chair of Religious Studies: Aurora University, USA)
This course places Jewish-Christian dialogue in the context of other inter-religious dialogical relationships. It begins by looking at the variety of different forms of inter-faith relationships in the contemporary world, and describes the progress that has been made in the last half-century, alongside other more negative relationships such as those proposed by fundamentalists. It addresses changes in late modern and postmodern times that have produced these responses, and adduces reasons why Jewish-Christian relations have been in the vanguard of innovative dialogue. For example, to what extent should inter-faith relationships take seriously the particularity of bilateral religious relationships? It will be suggested that some Christian theologians and churches erroneously suggest that one size of dialogue fits all sizes of relationships.
