The 12th annual South Texas Ranching Heritage Festival featuring an unique "ranch rodeo," cowboy storytellers, crafts people, folk artists, and the presentation of scholarly papers is scheduled for February 19-21, 2004 at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
The Frost National Bank will again sponsor the Mifflin and Petra Vela Kenedy Ranching Heritage Award with a prize of $200 for the author of the winning graduate student paper. The paper will be announced at the Symposium and subsequently published in _THE JOURNAL OF SOUTH TEXAS_. The award recipient will also receive travel expenses of up to $300, to Kingsville, Texas for a presentation.
The Symposium is scheduled for Friday, February 20, 2003. Papers should deal with some aspect of Texas Ranching Heritage--history, politics, geography, culture or literature. Three copies of the paper, double spaced in 12 pt. type must be received by December 31, 2003. A copy on a disk, typed in MS Word would be appreciated.
