Call for Papers: Race and Place
The Department of History at the University of Alabama, in conjunction with the Bankhead Lecture Series, invites proposals for papers and panels for the Third Annual Race and Place Conference: The Struggle for Civil Rights in America, to be held at the University of Alabama on March 11-13, 2004. The conference is designed to promote cutting-edge scholarship, especially by young scholars, on the study of race broadly defined. Papers on traditional aspects of civil rights struggles (Abolitionism, institution building, critical events and legislation, groups like the American Indian Movement and La Raza, etc.) are welcome. We especially encourage critical consideration of the legacy, memory, and cultural and political appropriations of these histories.
