The Pacific Coast Branch of the American Historical Association will meet August 5-8, 2004, in downtown San Jose, California, at the Fairmont Hotel. The Program Committee invites submissions that address the overarching theme of "The Challenges to Localism, Nationalism, and Internationalism: Competing Agendas of Groups, States, and Nations in Historical Perspective."
The Committee encourages submissions covering time periods other than recent history and session topics that are not limited to the United States or to the American West.
First preference will be given to submissions that contain complete session proposals. Individual papers will then be considered in so far as they can be matched into coherent sessions.
The deadline for receiving submissions is January 16, 2004. In order for a proposal to be complete it must include the following:
- A cover sheet with the title of the proposed session, the names of the organizer, chair, presenters, and discussant, along with their affiliations, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and a one page cv for each person;
- A separate page with a summary statement of no more than 250 words describing the overall thrust or theme of the proposed session; AND
- A title and an abstract of no more than 150 words for each paper, as well as an indication of what audiovisual equipment will be needed, if any-although no Power Point equipment will be available.
- A copy of the cover sheet must either be emailed to one of the program chairs -- ebarkan@csusb.edu or pseleski@csusm.edu -- or sent to one of them on a diskette or CD ROM (see addresses below) no later than January 16, 2004.
- Five complete copies of the entire proposal should be mailed to either of the contacts below by the January 16, 2004 deadline.
- Individual paper submissions must include all of the information requested above in points 1 - 4, and five copies of the complete proposal must also be sent to either chair by the January 16, 2004, deadline
