Flotsam and Jetsam: Interpreting Cultural Remnants of Sea Voyages
|
|
Mary Malloy, Maritime Studies Faculty, Sea Education Association, and Stuart M. Frank, Director, Kendall Institute; Senior Curator, New Bedford Whaling Museum explore the maritime history of Massachusetts through the cultural artifacts of the seafaring population. New England institutions are rich in such artifacts, which can be used to tell stories of exotic ports-of-call, and of a shipboard society that was multi-cultural, multi-racial, and not infrequently included women and children.
