Ideologies, Religions and Conflict: International Feminist Perspectives

In the aftermath of September 11 2001 and the 2003 Gulf War the linkages between ideologies, religions and conflict are major points of focus in the theory and practice of international politics. At this historic moment the absence of women’s voices has never been more apparent nor of greater concern, whether we are thinking about media commentary or reporting, government representation and debate, or academic engagement.

International Feminist Journal of Politics proposes to address this ‘absence’ directly through a cluster of articles or theme issue exploring as many dimensions as possible through the lenses of feminist analysis and women’s lives. We invite papers addressing the theme from as many geographical, societal and cultural perspectives as possible. We particularly encourage investigations that associate rather than oppose the tenets of ideologies (liberal, neoconservative, radical etc) with those of religions (Christian, Jewish, Muslim etc).

Possible themes for attention include: Democratization and ‘New World Orders’; Militarization and Weapons of Mass Destruction; Representations of the Other and Just War Theories; Militarization of Care and the Ethics of Intervention; Religion, Gender, and the Rise of Nationalism; Identities in Communities in Transition; Gender and Ideology in the ‘War Against Terror’; Whose ‘Axis of Evil’ – Why and Where?; Gender Inequalities and the ‘Liberation’ of Iraq; New Orientalisms; Sexualities and Conflict. Please interpret the call as openly as possible. Articles combining theoretical and methodological discussion with substantive evidence are especially welcomed.

Please submit to the Editors articles of between 5,000 and 8,000 words according to journal style (see Notes for Contributors at our website) as soon as possible and no later than <>March 31 2004.
