Call for Papers
Pan-American Philadelphia
November 1, 2003
The Historical Society of Pennsylvania
In keeping with a year-long theme of “Pennsylvania and the Americas,” The Historical Society of Pennsylvania invites presentations on topics for its Fall 2003 Symposium “Pan-American Philadelphia.”
The goal of this symposium is to explore various historical connections between Philadelphia and the Latin world over the last three centuries. Possible topics include: Philadelphia involvement in the Atlantic world, ties to the Carribbean, trade and commerce with Latin countries, political movements and influences, diplomatic connections, early Latino immigration and immigrant communities in Philadelphia or Pennsylvania.
Presentation topics should retain the Society’s geographic focus on Pennsylvania or the Mid-Atlantic region (comparative work including this geographic focus will also be considered). Symposium participants will be encouraged to submit versions of their papers to the Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography for possible publication.
To submit, please send a 1-2 page abstract with CV or resume.
